The Study Process

Information regarding each particular study is provided in the form of an "Informed Consent". This information is given to the individual to take home and review with family, or with their physician. Any one interested in participating in a study also has the opportunity to meet with the study doctor and discuss the study in detail.

Once it is determined that a clinical trial is a good option, then a screening visit is scheduled to determine eligibility for study entry. The screening procedures generally include a physical examination, blood work and sometimes x-rays or other tests, depending on the specifics of the study. This is done to determine general health and well being.

If criteria for study entry is met, the next visit will usually involve receiving study medication. Periodic blood work is generally done to determine the safety and tolerability of the medication being tested.

Study visits are performed frequently, sometimes every few days, every week, or every few weeks, depending on the specifics of the study. Compensation for time and travel is usually provided.

As a courtesy, blood work or other testing obtained in our office will be forwarded to Primary Care Physicians upon request.
